Uninstall and Reinstall WordPress

There are many users who want to uninstall and reinstall their WordPress installation. There might be many reasons, it can be a technical issue sometimes or they are having with the current WordPress installation problem. Make an emergency backup

Create your complete backup of your existing WordPress site, before you do anything. Make sure that you store your backup in a cloud storage or google drive or dropbox.

Export your WordPress content

By creating a WordPress export file, export your WordPress content. It will contain all your posts, pages, categories, tags, and comments. Here is how to create a WordPress export file.

  • At first sign in into Wordpress admin area.
  • After that, go Tools then Export page.
  • Click on download export file button by selecting all content.

Download wp-content folder

Your all WordPress themes, plugins, images, and uploads should be stored in the wp-content folder. To reinstall WordPress you can download this content to your computer and hence, you can use it later. You are ready to uninstall WordPress after downloading wp-content folder.

Properly uninstall WordPress

You need to connect to your WordPress site using an FTP client or File Manager in cPanel to uninstall WordPress. Then, delete all WordPress files.
There is no need to delete database of WordPress.

Fresh Install WordPress

Download a fresh copy of WordPress from Wordpress.org website. Then, unzip the download file. Open the WordPress folder and you will see all the files. Upload these files to your website. Then, enter the name of database, username, and password you created earlier. Click on the submit button to continue. Click on “Run Install”. Fill all the site information and then click on “Install Wordpress”. Now finish the installation. Go to the login page. When you are logged into Wordpress, delete the default content.Now, we have successfully reinstalled a copy of WordPress.

Restore, Upload, Images and Theme

Restore your uploads, images, and theme located inside the wp-content folder. And for that, you need to connect to your website using an FTP client and go to /wp-content/ folder. Then, select the /wp-content/uploads/ folder from your computer and then upload.

Import Content

Now you can import your posts, pages, categories, tags, and other content. Go to Tools » Import page and then click on ‘Install Now’ link.Then, WordPress will now download and install the importer. Click on the ‘Run Importer’ link. Then click on Choose file button and select the XML file. Then, Click on ‘Upload file and import’ button.

Install Wordpress Plugins

You can move on to installing plugins for importing content to your reinstalled WordPress site. You need to install all plugins and then activate them. To adjust their settings, you may need to manually setup plugins. Now, You have successfully uninstalled and reinstalled WordPress.
